New Clinic! Ice Climbing Photography Workshop

20845063024_c46d225b88_bBrand new to the Michigan Ice Fest, our Ice Climbing Photography Workshop puts you in the field, under the watchful eye of of a professional climbing photographer.

Loads of climbers head out into the back country of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and are amazed at the spectacular setting in which the climbs are situated in.  Honestly there couldn’t be a more perfect backdrop than the largest fresh water lake in the world! What better way to  improve your skills then to sign up for an amazing, fully immersive hands on photography workshop.

In this specialized course, you will learn the basic skills needed to safely rig, rappel, and jug on a fixed static line for the purpose of taking photos of ice climbers. Topics of instruction will include managing camera gear in cold weather, catching the moment, finding a composition, getting into position, and working with athletes while they climb. If time permits, students will be encouraged to shoot their own images for a brief critique that evening. Students should have at least an entry-level DSLR kit with a few lenses, and be comfortable climbing/rappeling WI3. $200 per person.

After spending a few years in Colorado, Mike is now completely mobile and does freelance videography and editing for productions all over the United States. When not freelancing or producing video for his business Wilkinson Visual, Mike is an avid adventure photographer. In the last few years, his images and videos have been noticed by the likes of Red Bull, Backpacker Magazine, Rock & Ice, Climbing Magazine, and Outside Magazine.
