New Water Trail Proposed
Do you like to canoe, kayak, row, or use other ways to paddle on the water? If so, please help us out!
Western Upper Peninsula Planning & Development Region is working with area recreationalists to develop a five-county Western Upper Peninsula Water Trail on Lake Superior. The counties affected include Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon. We are seeking input on the design of the trail and features that you think would be important such as amenities, access points and destinations or stopping points along the route. The Western UP Water Trail will link with the existing Keweenaw Waterway Trail, Hiawatha Water Trail in Marquette County, and the Lake Superior Water Trail in Wisconsin.
Please help us by taking a 10-minute survey. The survey will be open until June 1, 2012. Thank you for your input!

Hi, what an exciting project! I would highly recommend gathering info from other states such as Maine that already have extensive water trails for ideas. Then decide what will work best for the Superior Trail….no need to re-invent the wheel!!
The Maine water trail was the first developed in the U.S. It has an extensive website including contact people that you may want to consult with: http://www.mita.org/about/trail
Best wishes – I look forward to hearing more about this project!
