In September of 2011, Down Wind Sports and the Midwest Telefest lost a family member and dear friend. Dan ‘Danimal” Wissman was employed at Down wind Sports for eleven years where he was regarded as one of the best ski tech and bike mechanics in the Upper Peninsula. A fixture at our Houghton store Dan was an integral part of Telefest for many

Dan loved to get out and play and explore his beloved Keweenaw Peninsula on his mountain bike- cruising single track or dropping a fishing line during the summer months. In winter, Dan’s eyes really lit up when the snow fell, as he skied endless days in the backcountry around Mount Bohemia chewing up the sweetest lines. He will be remembered as a guy that loved life, and made us laugh and smile on a daily basis. At Telefest we will miss sharing a few turns in the backcountry, having that drink around the lodge fire, and watching Danimal dancing by himself at the party. Most of all we will miss that twinkle in his eye and that beautiful smile.

In honor of Dan we have created the Dan Wissman Memorial Challenge. It’s simple and the perfect way to honor Dan; a man who would go and try anything he had the opportunity to. So if you participate in any of the 3 competitions at the Midwest TeleFest you will be given a raffle ticket for a free pair of Bushwacker skis from Blizzard. Each event you participate in you’ll receive an additional raffle ticket. That means do all 3 events and you have 3 chances to win! It’s really that simple, you don’t have to be the best, you just have to show up and take advantage of the awesome good times you’re sure to have.

A match made for Midwest crushers and Western intermediate wanderers, the Blizzard Bushwacker Ski has you threading tight lines through pines, shredding steep techy terrain, and perfecting your skills in the terrain park. Built to lay tracks wherever you please, this all-mountain plank features Flipcore technology for fast, stable turns while simultaneously providing the snappiness and enhanced control that’s best suited for intermediates looking beyond the frontside.

  • Rockered tip and tail with slight camber underfoot kills it in the terrain park, slashes ankle-deep pow turns, busts through crud, and lays down hard groomer lines
  • CNC 3D-Bamboo Isocore woodcore creates a smooth, consistent flex pattern and gives you a lightweight, durable ski
  • Flipcore 3D technology features a flipped wood core which offers smooth handling, stability, increased edge-to-edge quickness, and a floating effect thanks to its natural rocker
  • Sandwich sidewall Quadrax construction provides bombproof durability, awesome power, and superb inbound performance
  • 88mm waist enables you to ski a variety of conditions and excels in the park and pipe

NEW THIS YEAR- The new ski hill mamagement is setting up a killer slalom course with fencing, gates and electronic timing!  Come on out and join in the fun and a chance of winning a $600.00 ski just for playing!
