FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after I book a trip?
Once you book a trip you will receive a conformation from us.  You will get a second email over the next few days introducing you to your guide. Your guide will email to discuss goals and objectives, meeting time and to answer any questions you may have.

Is gear included in my trip?  Can I bring my own gear?
Yes, all climbing gear is provided by the guide service. You can bring your personal gear but it needs to be inspected by your guide.

How long do we stay out?
Once your guide confirms a meeting time they will stay out with clients as long as the client wants. This can vary due to weather, number of clients in the group, etc.  We’re here to make sure you have a great day.  If you want to climb, we’ll stay out.

How young of a child can participate?
For ice climbing our smallest boot is a size 4, so generally speaking around an 8-year-old.  For rock climbing we have taken 4-year-olds out!

Do you do half day trips?
We do not, but clients can end the trip any time they would like.

Do we bring food?
We highly recommend bringing food and drink for all guided trips.

We have a family member that does not want to climb.  Can they come along?
Absolutely, we just ask that you inform your guide and that they are prepared for the day outside.

Where do we meet?
For all ice climbing trips we meet at Down Wind Sports 112 Elm Munising
For all rock climbing trips we meet at Down Wind Sports 514 N Third Marquette

Will we climb with other people?
We often combine groups or solo climbers with other groups who have booked that day.  This allows us help more people get out on the ice and not close off days because all our guides are booked.  Climbing is a social activity and we’ve seen a lot of new friends made on the ice this way.  We do offer the option to guarantee that you or your group will not be joined by other climbers for a 5% fee, which can be selected on our booking form.

What is your refund policy?
Cancellations made more than 30 days prior to a scheduled guided trip are eligible for a  90% refund (a 10% administrative fee will be applied).  Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to a scheduled guided trip are eligible for a 50% refund (a 50% administrative fee will be applied).  No refunds will be given if the cancellation is made in the week prior to the trip.

If the trip does not go out based on a safety or weather call made by our guide, we will work with you to reschedule the trip or offer you a full refund.
