Growing up in a small suburb of Grand Rapids, Michigan Vaughn climbed for the first time in
high school at a local gym called Terrafirma. After moving to Marquette to attend Northern
Michigan University, Vaughn’s interest in rock climbing was piqued again. In the summer of
2020, he began his journey sport climbing and eventually learned to love all disciplines of rock
climbing. Little did he know, this would be the first domino in a passionate rock climbing career.
Vaughn is president of the South Superior Climbing Club, NMU’s rock and ice climbing club that provides positive climbing experiences for students and the community. In the winter Vaughn enjoys, ice climbing, and this past year was an assistant guide at Michigan Ice Fest.
In May, Vaughn was a student in the AMGA’s Single Pitch Instructor course instructed by
Karsten Delap. He is currently pursuing his AMGA Single Pitch Instructor certification.
